Julian Albans: Now I'm just trying to fit in
Plot
Struggling to fit in at a new school after being expelled for his treatment of Auggie Pullman, Julian is visited by his grandmother and transformed by the story of her attempts to escape Nazi-occupied France during World War II. The film was originally scheduled for release on September 16, 2022, but was pushed back to October 14, 2022. Later that month, the film was quietly pulled from the schedule and pushed back to August 25, 2023 due to Fall (2021)'s poor box office performance, and was pushed back again indefinitely due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Grandmère mentions that Julian was expelled from Beecher Prep due to his bullying of Auggie in Wonder (2017). However, in this film, Julian was never expelled from Beecher Prep for bullying Auggie. He got a two day suspension and after hearing that his parents decided to pull him out of school after the school year.
Grand-mère: What?
That's been my motto since I left my old school. Julian, you didn't leave your old school. You got kicked out for being cruel to another boy. Julian Albans: Whatever. You know what I mean. If I learned anything back then, it was to just mind your own business.
Just be normal
Don't be mean, don't be nice. Grand-mère: And that's what you learned? To be normal? Julian Albans: What's wrong with normal? Grand-mère: Nothing. And everything.
I was very impressed with the acting, especially among the younger roles
Čudo (2017) continues. It Can't Be Wrong by Kim Gannon, Max Steiner Performed by Vera Lynn. I came in with low expectations, but this movie absolutely blew me away! This film had a very good pace and I was completely invested in the development of the main characters. The development felt genuine and meaningful, not just shallow or just to move the plot along. The central theme of the story, human kindness, was well portrayed and although we were given hints and foreshadowing, I was still surprised and torn as the plot unfolded.
I hope this film affects you just as deeply
The emotional maturity of one of the characters surprised me. I did not expect to be so moved by this film. This is one that everyone, young and old, must see. Regardless of your opinions, we all need to be moved by the genuine, moving kindness so effectively portrayed in this story. I cried quite a bit after the film, feeling a deep sadness at the hostility that prevails today.
