Hugh Jackman said he was really done playing Wolverine after Logan (2017)
Plot
The Time Variation Authority offers Deadpool a place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but instead recruits a variant of Wolverine to save his universe from extinction. He later regretted that statement after seeing the first Deadpool movie and expressed his interest in seeing the two characters meet on the big screen to Ryan. When asked why he chose to return to the film, he simply replied, "I just wanted to do it and I felt it in my gut," adding that he wanted to spend the best possible time on the set with Ryan Reynolds. Likewise, Reynolds had wanted to work with Jackman since the first Deadpool movie and was upset when he (Jackman) backed out of the role.

It was a fun experience to meet people in the middle of the night to shoot a new movie, and to gather fans who love this franchise as much as we do. Overall the movie was very enjoyable, but it felt like they just had to make something up for fun. Don't get me wrong, Ryan Reynolds does a phenomenal job and some of the scenes are just plain funny.
But what do I know?
But it was missing something that I can't explain somehow, it felt like they could have come up with a better story. I say go, and at least you laugh..
